A prayer for the stewardship of our light

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.  John 1

Blessed Lord God, lover of our souls.  You are the light of life and the goodness of our souls. Let your light shine in our darkness and let that light reflect from us into the darkness of the world. Shine your light into the darkened corners of our lives. Where we block the light from the corners we prefer to be dark, blast through even our own resistance and flood our souls with warmth and light so that the things we do which harm us are let go of and the things we do which harm others are relinquished to and absorbed by your light.

May the light of the Easter Vigil morning fire burn in us so that the fragrance of the incense of our work is fragrant to the world of noise and overwhelms the acrid smoke of unkindness, arrogance, self-righteousness, spiritual pride, intolerance and entitlement.  May we live each moment in the light of humility, the brightness of kindness and the warmth of self-offering. This, Good Lord, is our prayer.  AMEN
